LU Students at Mid-Atlantic Writing Center Association Conference

On Saturday, March 4th, three Lincoln University students and Writing Center tutors, Bryana Lambert, Kyrah Page, and Tyra Mitchell, together with Dr. Gamie, presented their papers at the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Writing Center Association Conference at Byrn Mawr College in PA.

Their panel was titled "Toward Promoting an Equitable, Nonracist, raciolinguistically Diverse Writing Center Site and Method." In the panel presentation, they explored the opportunities and challenges facing our HBCU Writing Center in its attempt to promote an equitable and raciolinguistically diverse Writing Center. They examined the dynamics of tutoring in a trans-lingual and diverse writing center, empathetic tutoring practices, the use of AAE in classrooms and tutoring spaces and pedagogies, and the tutoring needs of disabled students. The three students have also been invited by the Writing Center directors of the University of the District of Colombia to offer a tutor-training workshop for their student tutors.
