Elizabeth Michael’s journey at Lincoln University is a reflection of purpose, faith, and the power of embracing one’s full identity.
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Liz was raised in a Nigerian household as the fourth of five siblings and the first daughter. Her upbringing was shaped by strong cultural roots, a deep connection to her church, and the influence of her family’s African boutique business. Together, these experiences helped cultivate her creativity, discipline, and sense of responsibility from an early age. Arriving at Lincoln, Liz initially pursued a degree in Psychology, but she quickly realized that her passions extended far beyond a single path. With interests in mathematics, teaching, music, dance, poetry, and writing, she grappled with the idea of defining herself by just one calling. Over time, she came to understand that her purpose was not limited it was multifaceted.
What began as a practical decision to attend the closest historically Black college or university to home soon revealed itself as something much deeper. Lincoln University became a defining chapter in her life a place of transformation and discovery. Throughout her four years, Liz emerged as a dynamic campus leader. She served as captain of both the Step Team and Afrodance Team during her underclassman years, later earning recognition as Woman of the Year and serving as a Bible Study Ministry Leader. Through these roles, she developed a stronger sense of leadership, resilience, and confidence, while deepening her commitment to service and community.
Her time at Lincoln also marked a profound personal transformation. It was here that her faith became her foundation, shaping not only who she is, but who she is becoming. Reflecting on her journey, Liz recognizes the growth she has experienced since her first days on campus. From moving into her dorm in Hansberry Hall to becoming a leader and mentor among her peers, her evolution stands as a testament to the impact of the Lincoln legacy experience.
As she prepares to graduate, Liz carries with her not only the memories she has made, but the relationships, faith, and purpose that will guide her into the future. Lincoln University will forever remain a defining part of her story one that helped shape the woman she is today.
