International Admissions Requirements

Lincoln University welcomes applications from international undergraduates, transfer or graduate students. International students are advised to begin the admissions process at least one year prior to the time they wish to enter the University because additional time is usually essential for submission of required tests, academic documents, evaluations and immigration-related matters. We advise international students to follow the schedule listed below. Decisions regarding admissions will not be made until all of the documents listed below are received.

  • May 1 for the fall semester (classes begin in August).
  • November 1 for the spring semester (classes begin in January).

The following documents are required for admissions consideration:

  • Undergraduate admissions application. Graduate students will need to complete the graduate application provided on our graduate admissions page.
  • Non-refundable $20 application fee (Personal checks are not accepted).
  • One letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor, principal, head of school, or school official.
  • One letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor.
  • Official test scores:
    • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) - school code 2367
    • or American College Test (ACT) - school code 3614
    • Only official scores submitted via the testing agency will be considered. Scores from school counselors, scores on transcripts, and printed scores mailed in will not be considered. 
  • Official high school transcript, official certified final secondary school records, or mark sheets including grades 9-12.
  • Certified documentation of exit examination scores – for example CXC, GCE, WAEC, BGCSE, or exit examination scores from your region or country - All course titles, and the marks earned in those courses, should be reflected. 
    • A credential evaluation for your studies, including transcripts and exit examinations, via World Education Services, Inc. (WES) is required. Request the International Credential Advantage Package (ICAP) (Transcript + Evaluation) Document-by-Document Report only. Statement of results, provisional notifications of results, and website print out of results will not be accepted.

      NOTE: Lincoln University is not in a position to evaluate qualifications undertaken by students outside of the United States. Therefore, please arrange for a course-by-course credential evaluation of your previous studies be completed by World Education Services. You will need to follow the instructions provided on their website. Please note: It is the student's responsibility to contact the approved credential evaluation service, as well as to pay for the translation services. Applications will not be considered without this information.

  • Admissions essay. Please submit a 250-word essay on a topic of your choice or "What would you like to accomplish at Lincoln University?”
  • A score of 500 on the paper-based (PBT) or a score of 71 on the Internet based (IBT) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for applicants whose native language is not English. Lincoln’s school code is 2367. Only official reports from ETS will be accepted. Note: in lieu of the TOEFL (if not offered in your country), applicants may submit results from IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall score of a 6.5.
  • Affidavit of Support form and the supporting financial/income documentation showing proof of funds to cover your academic expenses for the duration of your time at Lincoln University. Multiple sponsors are permitted, however the dollar amount must be indicated.
  • Sponsor’s letter stating the sponsor’s name, your name, relationship to the sponsor and the sponsor’s intent to be responsible for your expenses; if you are self-sponsored, you should submit a letter stating that you are sponsoring yourself.
  • Recent monthly bank statement; if the statement is in a foreign currency, the U.S dollar equivalent and conversion rate must be stated. The balance must match or exceed the total completed in the “1st Year” column on the Financial Resources Form; a letter written by a bank is not acceptable.
  • Residential address in your country of origin; P.O. Box or commercial addresses are not acceptable.

International Transfer Applicant

A student who has completed academic studies at another college or university in the United States or abroad may be considered for transfer admission. The minimum standards for admissions consideration as a transfer student are:

  • Only grades that are “C” or above will be eligible for transfer. Transferable credits are also determined by the Registrar’s Office at Lincoln University.
  • Earned a minimum of 15 credits from your current institution.
  • Earned a 2.7 cumulative grade point average (GPA)
  • The following documents are required for admission consideration:
  • Application for Admission (Undergraduate admissions application or Lincoln University International Application (part 1) and (part  2))
    • Non-refundable $20 application fee (Personal checks are not accepted)
    • One letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor.
    • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions. If your transcript is in a foreign language or grade scale system, an official English translation is required by the World Education Services requesting the International Credentials Advantage Package (ICAP) (Transcript + Evaluation) Course-by-Course (with GPA & course levels). Report only.
    • A score of 500 on the paper-based (PBT) or a score of 71 on the Internet based (IBT) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) are required for applicants whose native language is not English. Lincoln’s school code is 2367. Only official reports from ETS will be accepted. Note: in lieu of the TOEFL (if not offered in your country), applicants may submit results from IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall score of 6.5.
    •  Affidavit of Support form: It must be signed by you and your sponsor. If you are self-sponsored, you should sign on both lines. The form does not require a signature or stamp by a bank official. Sponsor’s letter stating the sponsor’s name, your name, relationship to the sponsor and the sponsor’s intent to be responsible for your expenses; if you are self-sponsored, you should submit a letter stating that you are sponsoring yourself.
    • Recent monthly bank statement: if the statement is in a foreign currency, the US dollar equivalent and conversion rate must be stated. The balance must match or exceed the total completed in the right column on the Financial Resources Form; a letter written by a bank is not acceptable.
    • Residential address in your country of origin: P.O. Box only or commercial addresses are not acceptable.
  • International Transfer students attending a school within the U.S. must also send:
    • Copy of your I-94 and current I-20.
    • Color copy of your passport photo page and visa page.
    • ​Transfer Form completed by the Foreign Student Advisor at your current school.

Please Be Aware

Immigration form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility), needed to obtain a student visa, is not issued until the applicant has:

  1. been officially accepted by the the University
  2. paid the enrollment fee, and
  3. submitted a financial statement indicating how expenses will be met while attending the University
