Master of Arts in Human Services

School of Adult & Continuing Education

Are you looking to get ahead in your human services career? Whether you work as a social worker, case manager, family or occupational therapist, or another career focused on assisting and helping people in your community, a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Human Services degree from Lincoln University can give you the skills, knowledge, and experience to take your career to the next level.

The Master of Arts in Human Services (MAHS) program offers students an opportunity to learn advanced concepts, skills, and applications in human service delivery and administration. Students who successfully complete the requirements of the program will earn a Master of Arts in Human Services degree. Full-time students are able to matriculate through the program in 15 months. In September 2021, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics updated the Occupational Outlook Handbook stating, “employment in community and social services occupations is expected to grow 12 percent from 2020 to 2030, faster than average for all occupations … (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2021).”

The curriculum, delivered by experienced human services scholars and professionals, integrates new knowledge, along with “real-world experiences,” into the student’s knowledge base, utilizing peer collaboration, presentations, scholarly discourse in the classroom, guided readings, and writing assignments, and other innovative individual and group projects. An essential part of the program is the focus on social research, through which students learn the skills of scholastic literature review, research design, needs assessment, and program evaluation. The student’s skills as a human service professional are increased through the program’s focus on improving accessibility, professional accountability, and service delivery. These academic delivery benefits have proven successful in inspiring students to become change agents in an ever-changing world.
