From Lincoln to Hillman: Two Lincoln Alumni Join Writing Team for “A Different World” Reboot
From the hallowed grounds of Lincoln University to the iconic halls of Hillman College, two Lincoln alumni are living proof that faith, perseverance, and purpose can turn dreams into destiny. The creative duo—partners in both life and art—have officially been named staff writers for the highly anticipated reboot of “A Different World.”

Their story begins at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, the nation’s first degree-granting Historically Black College and University (HBCU). It was there that the Joel and Tasha Armstead met, fell in love, and began to shape their shared vision of storytelling that uplifts, inspires, and represents the Black experience authentically. “We fell in love, started a family, and vowed to follow our dreams together—at all costs,” the couple shared. “There were many years of ups and downs, tries and fails, but we never gave up. It wasn’t until we surrendered to God and His process that everything began to align. He told us to create without expectation.” That obedience paid off in a way they never could have imagined. One day, they received a call from acclaimed writer and producer Felicia Pride, offering them the opportunity of a lifetime: to join the writing team for the reboot of “A Different World.”

The moment was nothing short of full circle. “This show spoke to us as children,” they said. “It made us see the value in going to college and the importance of attending an HBCU. To now be working on the next chapter of this legendary series is an honor beyond words.” As staff writers, the alumni are helping usher in a new generation of viewers, students, dreamers, and storytellers—who will see themselves reflected on screen, just as they once did. “We’re grateful to be part of a team of incredibly talented people whom we’ve learned so much from,” they added. “Here’s to a successful season. See you at Hillman.”

The “A Different World” reboot not only marks the return of a beloved television classic but also celebrates the enduring impact of HBCUs and the alumni who continue to shape culture through creativity, authenticity, and heart.

From Lincoln to Hillman—what a journey.
