Senior Pedagogy Innovation Specialist, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning
Dr. Madhu Mahalingam is a Senior Pedagogy Innovation Specialist in CETL at Lincoln University. She has a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Stony Brook University and over 20 years of experience in educational leadership, curriculum development, and scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) as a professor at the University of the Sciences (now Saint Joseph’s University). She implemented evidence-based pedagogical innovations that significantly improved student success, including a 10% reduction in DFW rates and 15% improvement in exam averages through scaffolded learning approaches in General Chemistry at the University of the Sciences.
Her scholarly work focuses on active and collaborative learning pedagogies, including Team-Based Learning, structured and scaffolded group problem-solving, and technology-enhanced instruction. She has been recognized with multiple teaching excellence awards, including the Philadelphia Section ACS Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (2015) and the Phyllis Blumberg Learning-Centered Teaching Award (2021) at the University of the Sciences (now Saint Joseph’s University). She was the recipient of the Teaching Innovation Grant at Saint Joseph’s University in 2024.
She has numerous presentations on active learning pedagogy and scaffolded instruction at various teaching and learning conferences including discipline specific conferences such as ACS and BCCE.
