Completing Your Verification

Federal verification is a process that requires institutions to verify the accuracy of the information provided on a student's FAFSA to ensure federal aid is distributed to thosewho are eligible. Students selected for verification are done so through random selection by the Department of Education. If you have been selected, you are required to provide documentation to the school verifying the information entered on your FAFSA. If you choose not to, or fail to submit verification documents, we will be unable to complete the review of your eligibility for federal financial aid.

In order to complete the verification process, you must submit the following items:

For those who filed 2018 taxes

  • A verification worksheet
  • A copy of the students 2018 tax return transcript, if the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) was not used.
  • A copy of the parent(s) 2018 tax return transcript, if the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) was not used.

For those who did not file 2018 taxes

  • A verification worksheet
  • A copy of the students 2018 non-filing statement from the IRS, if applicable.
    • If the student worked but did not file, they must submit a copy of all 2018 W-2s.
  • A copy of the parent(s) 2018 non-filing statement from the IRS, if applicable.
    • If the parent worked but did not file, they must submit a copy of all 2018 W-2s.

You can request a copy of your tax return transcript or non-filing statement at irs.gov.
