All students accepted into the program will receive the following benefits:
- $5,000 research stipend
- ****Students are responsible for paying for the cost of housing and food. On-campus housing is available at Lincoln University’s main campus. We are working to ensure the cost of housing and food will be very cost efficient.
- Faculty mentored research experience
- Skills building and professional development workshops
- Evening social events
*Due to federal guidelines this program is only available to undergraduate students.
The LU SURA consists of five components: a faculty mentored research project conducted with a Lincoln University faculty member; research seminars; professional development seminars; skill-building workshops and evening social events. The research seminars will complement the research that students are conducting with their faculty mentors. Throughout the five-week period, students will work intensively with faculty mentors on their research projects. In addition, students will gain experience with research ethics, IRB practices, lab safety, keeping a lab notebook, public speaking and writing techniques and designing a poster for conference presentations.
Students will be required to write a research report describing their research project, present their research or creative works at a local, region or national conference, or Lincoln’s Research Symposium (Fall 2018/Spring 2019) and submit the completed final paper for publication via the Center for Undergraduate Research. Because of the intensity of the summer program, students must participate on a full-time basis and may not be employed or attend other classes during the five-week program.
Application and Selection Process:
Up to 10 students will be selected for the LU SURA. Student applicants should work with faculty whose research interest closely aligns with their research interest. Applicants whose area of interest is closely aligned with the expertise of a faculty member who is available to provide mentorship during the summer. To ensure all fields of study are represented, acceptance rates will be selected equally across disciplines.
