Transfer Student Admission

Lincoln University welcomes students choosing to continue their education with us.  The admissions process for transfer students is designed to support you, address your unique needs and provide you with a seamless transition experience.  You don’t have to start here to complete your degree here.

Application Process

To be considered for admissions to Lincoln University please submit the following documents:

  • Submit your online application for admission.  Transfer students may apply online via our website. 
  • Submit a completed Transfer Certification form.

Students Transferring with less than 12 college credits:

  • Official High School or GED transcript is required
  • Official SAT or ACT scores (required if you are transferring less than 12 credit hours-100 level or higher)
  • GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Dean Certification from all colleges and universities attended

Student Transferring with more than 12 college credits:

  • Official college transcripts from all postsecondary institutions
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Dean Certification from all colleges and universities attended
  • Official High School or GED transcript is required

Requirements for Transferring to Lincoln University

Lincoln University offers two types of transfer student admission:

  • First time transfer students are required to have 12 or more 100-level or higher credits from their previous college or university
  • First year students may transfer to Lincoln University with less than 12 credits

Community College Graduates

Students with an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better, may receive transfer credit for all courses in which you earned at least a "C” or better.

The Pennsylvania Transfer and Articulation Center

The Pennsylvania Transfer and Articulation Center (PA TRAC) allows students to easily identify courses and degrees that transfer to the University.  Students must meet Lincoln University’s admissions requirements. In some instances, students may be covered under a separate articulation agreement. Consult with the transfer administrator at your respective institution for more information.

Transfer Students Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is a transfer student?
    Any applicant who has previously matriculated at another higher education institution.  
  • How do I apply to Lincoln University?
    Go to the Undergraduate Admissions page, print out the application and mail it in to the admissions office.  Or, you can submit your application online.
  • How many of my credits will transfer to LU?
    We will complete a credit evaluation after the transfer student has been admitted and confirmed their intention to enroll.  We will evaluate credits from accredited colleges and will consider them for transfer if they are equivalent to LU courses and are at least a “C” letter grade.  Individual classes are evaluated by the respective faculty.
  • What if I do not have 12 credits to transfer?
    You will be evaluated as a first year student.

  • When is the deadline to apply?
    Priority deadline to apply for Fall admission is April 1st of each academic year.
    Priority deadline to apply for Spring admission is November 1st of each academic year.

  • Is there a maximum number of credits that I can transfer to Lincoln University?
    A student must take at least 30 credits with at least 15 credits in their major.  We will accept about 90 credits, at least “C” or better.
  • Do grades of “D” transfer?
    No. Only “C” or better in addition to being 100 level or above will be considered for transfer.
  • When can I meet with an admissions counselor to discuss the transfer process?
    Call the Undergraduate Admissions Office at (800) 790-0191. If you attend a community college, please contact your transfer office for more information about Lincoln University or speak with the Transfer Counselor when we visit your college.
  • When will I be assigned an advisor?
    During Orientation, just prior to the beginning of the semester, you will be assigned an advisor. 
    You will also register for classes during orientation.
  • If I am accepted for transfer admission, what is required of me?
    Once accepted, you must complete 12 credit hours with at least a 2.0 GPA in your first 2 semesters here.
  • What is required for a transfer student to earn a degree from Lincoln University?
    You must earn at least 15 semester hours in your major field to earn a degree, along with satisfying all other departmental requirements.
  • What happens next, once I'm admitted as a transfer student?
    If you are admitted you must submit a $275 acceptance deposit and register for New Student Orientation (LINK). Official college transcript(s) will be sent to the Office of the Registrar for evaluation. After evaluation, you will be referred to Academic Advising in order to determine the need for placement testing, as well as the development of your class schedule.
