Before
You Begin Using WebCT
rev. 7/18/07
FACULTY:
How
do I set up a WebCT course?
All faculty may use WebCT to
augment their class activities. When you know what classes you will teach with
WebCT, call or e-mail Nancy Evans in ATS (ext. 8148, evans@lincoln.edu) or Martha Spencer in IT (mspencer @lincoln.edu),
with the exact course title and number including section number. IT will give
you a username and password and load your students into the class.
When
can I request a WebCT course?
You should contact Ms. Evans or Ms. Spencer at least
four weeks before classes start to establish your WebCT class. When students have
registered, their names will be loaded. You can request a course shell anytime
before the semester so that you can prepare material in advance. That shell will
be converted to WebCT course when it is needed.
How
do I get started?
You can access WebCT from Lincoln's home page
(www.lincoln.edu) and then by clicking on the WebCT
link in the lower left of the page. Once you have a username and password, you
will go to this page (www.lincoln.edu/webct) to
log on and to check for WebCT events, information and online resources.
This
is a work in progress and resources will be added on an ongoing basis. For initial
set up please call ext. 8134. For questions, a WebCT help line has set up: 1-800-340-5462 or you may email a question to webct.help@lincoln.edu.
Faculty can always call ATS at ext. 8148. Students with questions should
ask their professors or IT at ext. 1234.
Who
will provide technical support?
ATS and WebCT mentors
will help faculty use WebCT.
Students' technical problems should be directed
to Martha Spencer in IT (mspencer@lincoln.edu). Students using WebCT can get help from their professors.
How
will students access WebCT?
A student orientation letter is available
from the WebCT website and in ATS, 150 DH, that explains how students will access
their WebCT courses. Faculty should hand out copies to their students in the beginning
of every semester.
Martha Spencer or Mark Hoffman in Information Technology will manage the WebCT database of students. IT will load students into courses and assign them usernames
and passwords (see the student orientation memo). They will access WebCT the same
way that faculty does, via the WebCT link on Lincoln's home page. Students will
also have access to resources and can log on on this page.
If faculty cannot
answer students' questions, students can contact the WebCT Helpline at 1-800-340-5462 or webct.help@lincoln.edu.
Who
can help faculty create WebCT courses?
ATS has a Faculty
Technology Mentor, Zoran
Milovanovich (ext. 7548, milovanovich@lincoln.edu) and a Technology Support Assistant to help you to use WebCT.
Dr. Milovanovichwill provide training to individuals and departments and can be contacted
through ATS at ext. 8148 or directly.
Will
training be provided to faculty?
Workshops on the use of WebCT tools are offered on the main campus every Monday at 3:00 in 340 DH.
