Our nation has asserted
a commitment to providing educational opportunity for all Americans regardless
of race, ethnic backgrounds or economic circumstance. Support of this commitment
congress established a serious of programs to help disadvantaged students enter
college graduate and move on to participate more fully in America’s economic and
social life. This is funded under the Title IV of the Higher Education Act of
1965 and are known as TRIO Programs. Trio programs are designed to help students
overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education. They provide
information, counseling, academics instruction, tutoring, and assistance in applying
for financial aid, encouragement and support. Trio programs—Upward Bound, Talent
Search, Student Support Service and Educational Opportunity Centers—provide the
support that gives students the hope and skill needed to succeed in college.
