How does Upward Bound help students succeed?
An academic program of study is developed based on a diagnostic assessment of individual learning needs. Through biweekly meeting and periodic visits to Lincoln, participants learn to be better students. Students receive the following:

Tutoring for grade improvement.

Counseling to address career and personal matters.

Counseling on the college admissions and financial aid process.

Training in test taking processes.

During summers, students live at Lincoln University for six weeks to experience campus life. The summer component provides students with opportunities for the following:

Instruction in English, math, reading, science, the arts and other college preparatory areas.

Development of good study habits and critical thinking skills.

Exploration of career possibilities participants in educational, cultural, social and recreational activities.

Development of independence living skills.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible a student must be:

A citizen or permanent resident of the United States.

In grades 9-11.

Interested in continuing education beyond high school.

Of the first-generation in his or her family to go to college and or meet income guidelines.

From a participant high school Upward Bound is for all people who meet eligibility requirements and is available regardless of racial, ethnic and cultural background. Students with physical disabilities are encouraged to apply.

How much does is cost?

All services and activities are free eligible participants. Upward Bound is funded by the Student Service Division of the U.S. Department of Education.

How can I apply?

Upward bound students are selected on the basis of an application, recommendations from the teachers and counselors, a review of academic records and an interview with Upward Bound staff. For further information, contact your school counselor or the Upward Bound program.
