What have you learned from your project about the principles and practices of good teaching that you would like to share with your colleagues? In what way(s) did this project help your students gain new knowledge or skills? In what way(s) has your grant-funded project changed the way that you teach?

An arithmetic pretest was administered to 41 sophmore/junior HSCI majors students enrolled in my HPR 207: Health Promotion class (spring 2009).  Of the 10 items, the mean was 3.  For this sample, decimals and fractions need to be reviewed/re-taught (which the grant award addresses).  The intervention consists of daily in-class problem-solving tasks (health topics) designed to ameliorate arithmetic deficiencies.  Additionally, a Quantification Lab (consisting of graphs /charts /word problems) is required.  A post test will be administered at the end of the semester.
