Lincoln University is proud to have its own
radio and television starions housed within the walls of the campus
community wirh rhe mission of providing a forum for student expression,
entertainment, and news and information of interest to the cam
pus community. Also, the mediums serve as class laboratories for
the academic curriculum 0f the English and Communications department
for students interested in pursuing television and radio broadcasting
as a career profession.
WWLU - 88.7FM
WWLU first aired in 1978 with the call letters WLIU from Morris
Hall, where the radio transmitter currently remains. The call
letters were changed to WWLU in (2003) and the studio is currently
located in the upper level of the student union building (SUB),
which broadcast programming throughout the academic year.
The mission ofV’WLU is to provide quality programming produced
by students, faculty and staff with an emphasis on content that
is of interest to all but within the guidelines of the Federal
Communications Commission. The goal is to include programming
produced by individuals outsidc of the Lincoln community and public
broadcasting services.
Dubbed the “little station with the big sound” given
the 10 watt frequency of the station, WWLU, 88.7 FM, can be heard
in stereo outside the campus community in surrounding areas of
Lincoln University. WWLU provides an array of programming ranng
from hip-hop, jazz, reggae, gospel and pop to alternative, news,
talk, and contemporary Christian.
LUC-TV: Channel 8, 11 & 25
The history of LUC-TV is long and ever changing. Channel 8 and
11 came into existence in 1997 when Lincoln University contracted
a new cable provider, which allotted two channels specifically
for campus-produced programming. In 2005, channel 25 was added
with the purpose of advertising channel 8 programming, campus
events and announcements.
LUC-TV studio, housed in the student union building is equipped
with 3 camera set-up, switcher, teleprompter, sound board, lighting
system, and editing system. The mission of is to provide a professional
facility to produce quality programming produced by the Lincoln
University community, which includes students, faculty and staff
and serve as a laboratory for television production classes.
Students mostly operate LUC-TV with the assistance from SAEM staff.
The goal of LUC-TV is provide a forum for student expression,
serve as an outlet for student entertainment and educational programming,
and become the premier producer 0f campus events.
