First Year Experience

The First Year Experience is the planning, implementation and involvement with the incoming class for each academic year. The office coordinates the Orientation/Transition Week process for new admits to the university and continues to work with the class in numerous capacities that include class advisors, academic and personal counselors and individual mentors. The Transition/Orientation Week introduces students to the various policies, procedures and personnel that they should be acquainted with. In addition to information pertinent to the university, students are also taught of the rich history of Lincoln University and are provided several sessions that might better prepare them for the college experience. As a part of this program, students are also provided with a Student Leader Ambassador. Student Leader Ambassadors are one of the department’s largest bodies of leadership that consist of upperclassmen students who have been selected, trained and supervised by the Office of Student Life & Development. Each of these students serves as a mentor and an additional resource for new students. Our office partners with faculty, staff and various university administrators to assist in the overall development and achievement of our incoming students. In this regard, the absolute goal of this department is to create an environment that is welcoming, supportive and stimulates growth for the betterment of each student individually, as well as their communities and this global society.
