The Department of
Sociology and Anthropology offers four majors: Sociology, Anthropology,
Criminal Justice and Human Services.
Each of these programs is designed to provide students with a solid
understanding of social and cultural processes, institutions, and the linkages
between the individual and society.
One of the primary
objectives of this department is to prepare students for a variety of careers,
confident in their ability to help shape a more humane world. Career
opportunities include, but are not limited to, business, government, social
services, and the justice system. These
programs are also designed to help prepare students for graduate studies in
sociology, anthropology, human services, criminal justice, and law.
The mission of the Sociology & Anthropology Department is to prepare students to shape a better world at a time of rapid social change by:
§
Helping
students recognize and appreciate the concept of multiculturalism and diversity
in a global era.
§
Providing
a liberal arts education with an emphasis on social science research methods,
critical thinking skills, and historical consciousness.
§ Helping students develop knowledge and skills necessary for successful careers in community agencies, government, private employment, and not-for-profit organizations.
