African
American Heritage Series

The
African American Heritage series was created as an alternative
to Black History Month. As an Historically Black College/University,
it is important that we understand and promote the ideology
that black history is more than a month of celebration.
From this philosophy, the Office of Student Life and
Development created the African American Heritage Series.
The series consists of various programs and activities
throughout the academic year exposing students to black
history. activities have included:
Sankofa:
The Eyes in the Back of Our Head– Molefi Kete
Asante
King
Tut Exhibit at the Franklin Institute of Philadelphia
Dance
Exhibition by Philadanco Dance Company
Annual
Brothers Week
Annual
Sisters Week
Black
History Trivia Game Shows
While
most of the activities are one day events, Brothers
and Sisters Week are extended to a 4-6 day period of
time. During these weeks, programs and activities are
designed solely for each group separately. The week
consists of forums about brotherhood and sisterhood,
relationships, history and knowledge building sessions,
community service, banquets, fitness and nutrition information,
personal care and pampering, etc.
