Civic
Engagement
The
Office of Student Life and Development is committed
to serving the students of Lincoln University. In an
effort to continue developing strong leaders and productive
citizens, we offer Community Service and Service Learning
Projects.
Any
students interested in joining any of our Pan Hellenic
or Social Fellowship organizations must satisfy the
community service requirement, which varies between
1-2 projects each year.
Community
Service Projects are either office-sponsored or are
coordinated by an individual student. All projects are
intended to strengthen students’ sense of civic
engagement and nationalism, and to help them achieve
their educational, developmental, and social goals.
The office provides transportation to office-sponsored
projects and the projects are generally one-time projects.
Students must sign up in office. Sign up dates are advertised
with each project via Lincoln University email only!
For projects coordinated by students individually, students
must visit the office before the project takes place
to gain approval in advance.
Service
Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates
meaningful community service with instruction and reflection
to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility,
and strengthen communities. These projects are either
office-sponsored or are coordinated by an individual
student. Students provide their own transportation to
these projects, which are generally recurring activities,
though there may be a few one-time events. For projects
coordinated by students individually, students must
visit the office before the project takes place to gain
approval in advance.
Ultimately,
our office aims to provide students with the opportunity
to serve in surrounding communities and to develop long
lasting partnerships with various community based organizations
and businesses.
