for the Sesquicentennial Talent Competitions This
year marks a special time in the life of Lincoln University. The annual Lincoln
University Poet Laureate contest will become part of the Sesquicentennial Celebration.
You are invited to share your best poetry for a contest for which awards are as
follows: In addition to the prize, the first place winner
will have her/his name placed on the Contest Plaque located in the English Department.
Rules and Procedures: - To compete, participants
need to fill out a preliminary application form in the Office of Special Events
and Community Relations, located in Lincoln Hall, Room 209 by January 15,
2004
- Poetry for consideration must be submitted by March
12th by 12:00 noon. The winners will be announced in April.

Participants must submit three poems which have never been published or received
awards. The total number of lines (all poems together) should not exceed one-hundred
lines.
At least one of the poems should focus on one
of the following topics: Lincoln University 150th birthday, Langston Hughes, or
some aspect of African/African American culture. The original
copy of your poem should have your name, extension, SMR #, and working email address.
In addition, five copies of each poem without any identification
should be submitted in a manila folder with your name on the tab. The
completed folder containing original poems and duplicates must be submitted to
Dr. Prigg who is located in 302.03 University Hall. For
