Welcome
Dean Chikwem welcomed faculty to the meeting. He thanked them for the nice job they did in the fall semester with the students and hoped that faculty would continue to mentor and groom our students. He hoped that they all had a nice Christmas and New Year holiday. He told faculty that they were being honored at the meeting by the presence of Dr. Ivory Nelson, the President of Lincoln University. Dr. Chikwem yielded the floor to the President.

Dr. Nelson's Address

President Nelson informed faculty that he was not at the meeting to make a speech, but rather, to listen to faculty and answer their questions. He discussed the following issues:

a) He showed faculty the maiden issue of "Academic Accolades," a publication of Lincoln's Academic Affairs. He said that 2 issues would be printed each year, one for each semester. Academic Accolades would be distributed to contributors, faculty and legislators.

b) President Nelson said that the physical facilities were still a problem; some residential and academic buildings do not get heat or are overheated.

c) The advertisement for architects for the new science building has been carried out, and three architects have been recommended to the Deputy Secretary. He hoped the selection process would not exceed one month. He further stated that $24M will be earmarked for the actual construction while $6M will be used for design and other contingencies. · Answering questions from the faculty, president Nelson stated that the construction money does not include cost of furniture. Lincoln will furnish the building as it desires. · In response to a question from Dr. Shabazz, Dr. Nelson said he was not aware of the situation in the Math Lab. · In answer to another question, Dr. Nelson stated that the building might be started by early next year; there will be spaces for research.

d) He also informed the faculty that the current administrative software would be replaced at a cost of $3M. He asked faculty to study the Academic Reform charts and dates and send their suggestions.

e) On the PTS, Faculty Awards and Reading requirements, President Nelson said that Schools will be nominating representatives to discuss the issues.
