Welcome
Dean
Chikwem welcomed everyone to the meeting.
He hoped that the meeting would be a short one and thanked
faculty for the great contributions they were making in their
departments and in the school.
III.
Minutes of Previous Meeting
The
minutes of the previous meeting were approved with minor corrections.
IV.
Matters Arising from the Minutes
·
LEAPS - Dr. Chikwem informed faculty that tutoring
rooms were now available in Dickey, Grim and Wright Halls.
He requested faculty to inform students of this service.
·
LS-AMP – Drs. Swinton and Langley reported that
11 students sent in posters but only nine students participated.
Five students received awards; 2 honorable mentions and
three 3rd place finishes. Drs. Langley, Swinton and Chikwem also received service awards.
From the discussion that ensued, it was recommended that
faculty should be more involved in editing the posters, training
the students and psychologically preparing the students.
·
Journal:
Dr. Chikwem pleaded with faculty to submit articles for
publication in the School Journal.
Several faculty promised to send their articles by the
end of the semester.
V.
Proposals from the Department of Mathematics
The
Department of Mathematics presented their proposal to combine
three majors into one major.
After extensive discussions on the proposal, it was passed
with one abstention.
The
second proposal was aimed at allowing MAT 105 to satisfy University
MAT requirement. This
is because a lower level course, MAT 104, satisfies University
requirement while MAT 105 does not.
After a heated argument on this proposal it was withdrawn.
VI.
Changes in Spring 2005 Schedules – Faculty discussed
the proposed Spring schedule and suggested that the University
could be officially opened on the 3rd or 4rth instead
of the 9th as proposed.
The two examination schedules being proposed for seniors,
choristers and the rest of the students would be problematic.
The Dean proposed to convey the suggestions to the Administration.
Adjournment:
The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
