Minutes

March 8 , 2005

I. Welcome
Dr. Chikwem welcomed faculty to the meeting, and observed that the number of faculty attending meetings has been dwindling steadily. He informed faculty that Dr. Venerable was attending the meeting to speak to faculty. He yielded the chair to Dr. Venerable to address faculty.

II. Dr. Venerable's Address
The Vice President said he had not come to deliver a speech but to listen to faculty and to answer any questions regarding the Academic Affairs. Faculty addressed the following questions to him:
· What is the definition of a minor?
VPAA: The way it works for your discipline.
· Will the Board accept not having a minor?
VPAA: Just have a minor available, students may not need it. If they need it, then they will take it.
· Are there any examples from other Schools?
VPAA: No
· Why are they doing this separate from what other schools are doing?
VPAA: Because this is Lincoln University.
At this stage Dr. Shabazz told faculty that the curriculum was well defined when he was a student. Today, things have changed and there are too many remedial courses. The curriculum was much stronger then and there were no objective examinations.

III. Minutes
The minutes of the previous meeting was approved with minor corrections. The name of Dr. Shabazz was incorrectly spelled.

IV. Science Fair
The Dean reminded faculty that the 9th Annual Science Fair was scheduled for the 2nd of April at the Student Union Building (SUB). Invitations have been sent out to students, Board of Trustees, and to Cheyney University. Breakfast and lunch will be served. He pleaded with all departments to help students work on their posters and abstracts.
