and approved with minor corrections. (Dr. A. Tung was present
at the meeting.)
III.
MED proposal - Biology Department
Dr. David Royer presented the proposal. Six courses were listed
for the M.Ed program. All students accepted into the program
would be required to have a Bachelors degree in Biology or an
equivalent qualification as well as a GPA of 3.0 with no grades
less than C. For certification, students must be enrolled into
the program. The Chair and faculty of the Biology Department
will review all applications.
IV. Environmental
Toxicology
Dr. David Royer explained that this course would be offered
in the Fall semester; it will be an elective for Biology and
Environmental Science majors. The pre-requisites will be specified
or the permission of the instructor will be sought in order
to take the course. The course will be taught with a laboratory
component. The course was approved by faculty.
V. Core
Curriculum
The proposed core from the School of Humanities was reviewed
and discussed. A committee to discuss the submission from the
School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics was instituted. Members
of the committee include: Drs. M. Huq, R. Langley, L. Treisner
and D. Royer. Dr. Langley was asked to convene the meeting and
prepare a report for consideration by the faculty.
VI. Grant
for Tutoring with LaSalle
Dr. Chikwem explained that some grant money is available for
tutoring. Two sites were proposed: Chemistry and Physics in
Wright Hall; Biology and Mathematics in Grim Hall. Faculty will
recommend students to be involved in peer tutoring. Rewards
will be given to students for participating in tutoring sessions.
VII.
Reports from Academic Excellence Committee
Dr. Langley reported that no meetings have been held; consequently
no reports are available.
