Attendees: President Ivory V. Nelson, Vice President Howard E. Merlin, Vice President Michael B. Hill, Vice President Grant D. Venerable, Vice President William B. Bynum, and Ms. Diane M. Brown. Attending for portion of meeting: Mr. John Thompson, Director of Physical Plant.
Draft Cabinet minutes of November 7, 2006 were approved with necessary revision.
Cabinet discussed the University’s financial statement and summary conformance reports as of October 31, 2006. Expenses are within budget for the period July 1 – October 31, 2006.
Mr. Thompson provided the following update:
▪ Bids have been solicited for the Back-up Generator
▪ International Cultural Center – expect to break ground in March 2007 for an anticipated January 2009 occupancy
▪ New High Technology Science Building - expect to break ground in March 2007 for an anticipated January 2009 occupancy
▪ Chapel renovations expected to be completed in time for student return to campus for Spring semester in January 2007
▪ Chapel bells have been programmed to ring on the hour between 8 AM and 6 PM on weekdays, and between 9 AM and 12 PM on weekends
▪ Still have the issue of students opening windows in Building 116. This impacts the heating efficiency for the entire building
▪ Scope of the Security Camera System has been determined
▪ Tenant displacement procedure approved
Cabinet was given two articles concerning the increasing efforts by Black colleges to recruit more Hispanics. Also distributed was an article concerning the role of financial aid in student retention efforts.
