President's Cabinet Meeting
November 8, 2004

Attendees:  President Ivory V. Nelson, Vice President Michael B. Hill, Vice President Grant D. Venerable, Vice President Howard E. Merlin, Dean Jerryl Brigs and Ms. Diane M. Brown.  

Attending for portion of meeting:  Mr. John Thompson

Minutes of November 2, 2004 Cabinet meeting were approved.

Physical Plant Update
Mr. Thompson presented the Cabinet with the proposed scopes of work for several capital projects.  The Cabinet agreed that the funding for HVAC will be applied  to install air conditioning in Manuel Rivero Hall, Hansberry Hall and Ashmun Hall.  This plan will increase the number of air conditioned dorm rooms available on the campus as well as provide a comfortable climate in the gym, which is heavily used by our students.  

The bid packages for the furniture for the new student residence hall are ready to be sent out.

President Nelson stressed the importance of keeping the campus grounds groomed and free of litter.  The student life office has implemented a student incentive program to encourage students to keep the dorms clean.  

Centers of Excellence and Distinction
The offices of Academic Affairs and Development and External Relations are collaborating to develop marketing papers for Lincoln's proposed Centers of Excellence and Distinction.  Four Centers have been proposed in the following areas:
¨    Teacher Education and Urban Pedagogy
¨    Mass Communication
¨    Bio-Tech, Materials, and Environmental Science
¨    Business and Information Technology

Fiscal Affairs
The Request for Proposals (RFP) for Bookstore services is ready for mailing.  November 30, 2004 is the target date to bring interested candidates to campus.

There being no further business, President Nelson adjourned the meeting at 12:00 p.m.
