MINUTES

Minutes of the October 26, 2011 Cabinet Meeting were approved.

PRESIDENT

Assessment – Dean Chikwem gave an overview of the assessment of student learning presentations made by faculty in the division of Natural Science and Mathematics.  He stated that the activity was very helpful in assessing the progress and status of the faculty in student learning assessment and that the mid-term presentations will be implemented as a permanent component of the assessment process in the School of Natural Science and Mathematics.

Vice President Hill indicated he will implement the same schedule for student learning assessment review by faculty in the Mass Communications and Visual Arts Centers.

Dean Thomas indicated that faculty in the schools of Humanities and Behavioral and Social Sciences have been asked to be prepared to make the same type of presentations at the end of the semester, rather than at mid-term.

Freshman Placement – The Cabinet discussed criteria for placement of freshman students into developmental courses.  Items discussed included a student’s right to waiver (out of developmental courses) under certain circumstances, and the use of SAT scores as measurement criteria.

Senate Appointment to Board of Trustees – Trustee Kimberly A. Lloyd has been reappointed as a Commonwealth Trustee of Lincoln University for a term expiring August 31, 2015.

VICE PRESIDENT FOR FISCAL AFFAIRS

Lincoln has been approached with an offer to purchase a house/property adjacent to University property.  However, for various reasons, the offer will not be pursued.
Vice President Merlin is working with the Development staff on donor statements for endowments.
The “Financial Clearance” letter drafted to students will be revised to indicate that students not achieving financial clearance will not be permitted to enroll or return to campus for the 2012 spring semester unless financial clearance has been achieved.  They will not, however, be required to vacate their residence hall rooms prior to the end of the semester.
