President's Cabinet Meeting
October 6, 2003
Attendees: President Ivory V. Nelson, Vice President Michael B. Hill, Vice President Howard E. Merlin, Vice President William B. Bynum, Dean Gladys J. Willis and Ms. Diane M. Brown (John Thompson, Director of Physical Plant attended for discussion on campus heating.)
The Cabinet approved the minutes of the September 29, 2003 meeting.
The heating system to all campus buildings has been disconnected by construction contractors who severed the steam lines. Until the system can be repaired, portable boiler trailers will be utilized to provide heat in student dorm buildings, while portable propane heaters will be used in others. The contractor concerned will shoulder the cost of the provision of the temporary heating systems.
Langston Hughes Memorial Library
The Dean of the School of Humanities and Graduate Studies was asked to follow up with the Library concerning extending the Library hours on Sundays to 10 p.m. as they were last year. It is important that the Library be open on Sunday evenings for the students.
The Vice President for Fiscal Affairs was asked to follow up with the Director of Information Technology concerning the repair/replacement of malfunctioning student designated computers/printers in the Library. The problem is to be addressed as soon as possible.
Development and External Relations
Sponsorships for the Sesquicentennial Philadelphia Gala currently total $215,000. This total represents 25 company and 13 individual sponsorship commitments to date.
Student Affairs & Enrollment Management
A total of 1,983 students have enrolled for the fall 2003 semester. Of this total, 318 undergraduate and 50 graduate students have not yet been cleared.
The Cabinet meeting was adjourned at 11:30 AM.
