President’s Cabinet Meeting

Attendees:  President Ivory V. Nelson,  Vice President Grant D. Venerable, Vice President William B. Bynum, Vice President Howard E. Merlin, Dr. Renford A.B. Brevett for Vice President Michael B. Hill and Ms. Diane M. Brown.  Ms. Thelma Ross attended for a portion of the meeting.
Cabinet minutes of August 27, 2008 were approved.
President Nelson thanked everybody involved in the success of the first football game on Saturday, August 30, 2008.  It was a great day, well coordinated and enjoyed by everyone in attendance.
Various elements of the proposed academic plan for excellence were discussed by the Cabinet.
Cabinet discussed whether a pre-employment drug testing policy should be implemented at Lincoln or whether our current “cause” policy is sufficient.  The vice president for fiscal affairs was asked to gather information on the practices of the other three state-related institutions.
Vice president Merlin was also asked to find out the implications to Lincoln University of the “Smoke free” policy adopted by the Commonwealth effective September 1, 2008.
