August 4, 2009 Cabinet minutes were
approved.
PRESIDENT
·
Pennsylvania
legislators have not yet come to an agreement on a 2009-2010 budget. Cabinet discussed the impact of this on the
University.
·
The
following Lincoln University policies were approved:
a)
Code of Conduct Enforcement
b)
Fireworks Prohibition
c)
Equal Employment Opportunity,
Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action
d)
Workplace Violence Prevention and
Weapons
e)
Employment and Hiring.
·
Marketing/Recruitment/Retention – The
following five areas of focus were discussed:
a)
Aggressive recruitment of high
academic
achieving high school juniors and seniors
b)
Follow up with students in (a) above
who apply
and are accepted to Lincoln
University
c)
Requirements of students with low
GPA and SAT
scores who are accepted to Lincoln University
d)
Preparation of students to enter the
world of
work or graduate school
e)
Building alumni relations
- Top
100 Graduate degree producers – DIVERSE: Issues in
Higher Education ranked Lincoln University 51 among producers of
African-American Master’s degrees in all disciplines combined for the
2007-2008 academic year..
ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
Grade Change Policy – A comprehensive policy governing
student
grade changes is to be put in place for the fall ’09 semester. The policy will define the allowable timeframe
in which grade changes must be accomplished.
Writing proficiency fee – Dean Willis suggested that
the $130
writing proficiency fee for the portfolio should be added to the list
of
student fees. President Nelson asked that
she work with Dr. Brevett to see if there is any way to do this.
FISCAL AFFAIRS
Vice President Merlin advised attendees of the federal
law effective
2010, mandating that required course books be placed on the
university’s
website. This matter will be brought before the faculty at the Faculty
Conference.
The new student residence hall committee held its
initial meeting. Over 50 organizations
have indicated their
interest in this project.
