Dean Judith A.W. Thomas and Ms. Diane M. Brown. Attending for portion
of meeting: Mr. John Thompson, Director of Physical Plant
Minutes
Draft Cabinet minutes of August 1, 2006 were approved.
Physical Plant Briefing
Mr. Thompson reported that approximately 75% of requested painting of buildings
has been completed including: Rendall and Amos halls, and various spaces
in Lincoln Hall, Bond House, Foster, Frederick Douglass and the LLC.
Other projects underway or completed over the summer include: Building
26 renovations, erection of modulars for academic classrooms/offices and
the SUB, renovation of rooms in Vail Hall for business office, and preparation
of LLC basement for records retention.
Department of General Services projects in progress are asbestos abatement
in the Library and Manuel Rivero Hall; HVAC work in the Chapel and the gym;
roofing for Dickey, Grim and Wright halls; and the complete renovation of
University Hall and Ware Center.
Mr. Thompson also discussed with the Cabinet, the design for the new International
Cultural Center.
PA Department of Auditor General Audit Report-FYE June 30, 2005
The independent auditor’s audit of the statement of Lincoln University’s
appropriations earned for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2005 found that
no exceptions were noted in the sample invoices totaling $1,242,745, which
were reviewed by the auditors. The final audit report found the “the
accompanying statement of appropriation earned presents fairly, in all material
respects, the earned appropriation of Lincoln University for the fiscal year
ended June 30, 2005, pursuant to Act Number 2004-12A, as described in Note
3.”
PACE (Pennsylvania American Council on Education) Network
Cabinet agreed that Lincoln University will nominate Dr. Patricia Joseph
to participate in the PACE Network Executive Forum, October 29-30, 2006 in
Hershey, PA. The forum is designed to prepare women to assume leadership
positions in higher education administration. The PACE Network planning
board will invite 25-30 women from those nominated, to participate in the
forum.
Pandemic Flu Preparedness
Lincoln University’s Pandemic Flu Preparedness Committee continues to meet
to finalize a document for approval by the Administration. The Committee
most recently met on July 28, 2006. President Nelson asked that the
vice presidents share the July 28 committee meeting minutes with their staffs.
Fiscal Affairs
Vice President Merlin indicated that his area is working on developing an
official records retention policy for the finance division.
Ms. Christy Lindsey has joined the fiscal staff as Sr. Grants Accountant
Academic Affairs
Dean Thomas reported that 98% of hiring has been completed except for
adjuncts. However, the Freshman Year Experience courses have been fully
staffed.
Student Affairs and Enrollment Management
Vice President Bynum informed Cabinet that campus housing is now at capacity.
Several students have been placed on the waiting list and will be assigned
space as “no shows” are identified in the next few weeks.
The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Membership Expansion
Committee’s site visit to Lincoln University has been scheduled for Monday,
August 28, 2006.
