MINUTES
July 14, 2009 Cabinet minutes were
approved.
PRESIDENT
·
President Nelson stressed the
importance of University-wide
conservative, practical spending and shared with members of Cabinet his
06.30.09 memorandum to the Board regarding positioning Lincoln University
for the new [fiscal] realities.
·
The school deans must be
resourceful,
conservative and cautious as they manage class size, courses offered
and textbook
adoptions.
·
Citing a 07.17.09 Philadelphia
Inquirer article,
President Nelson noted that of the more than 112,000 students at the 14
universities in the state system will pay 3.7% more for tuition. Universities may have to reexamine their
tuition if the state adopts a budget that contains additional cuts in
funding.
·
Interim Vice President Briggs will
send a
representative from Lincoln to attend a
H1N1
workshop on August 14 in Harrisburg. Representatives from the PA Department of
Health and the PA Emergency Management Agency will present guidance on
the H1N1
situation and will share the latest CDC guidelines on university
closure
procedures should H1N1 become more severe during the fall and winter
flu
season.

Interim Vice President Briggs will
facilitate
the completion of the 2009 Campus Crime and Security Survey with Mr.
James
Conner and Dr. Renford Brevett.
ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
·
Deans Chikwem, Thomas and Willis
provided oral
reports on issues, research, alliances/partnerships and achievements
within
their respective schools.
FISCAL AFFAIRS
·
Vice President Merlin presented the
June 2009
Treasurer and Investment Reports.
·
Vice President Merlin provided a
summary on the
University’s fiscal operations until the Commonwealth’s budget is
approved.
·
Vice President Merlin will review
the
University’s existing travel policy and procedures to insure prudent
spending.
