MINUTES
The
July 12, 2011, Cabinet minutes were approved as presented.
PRESIDENT
Annual
Faculty Conference – August 18-19, 2011.
The mantra of the 2011-12 conference is how faculty are performing, how are
they evaluating and measuring their performance, and what value and return are
they providing for the investment of people and capital. The conference will
center on student learning assessment and the new accountability realities from
MSCHE, the federal government, and the Commonwealth. Deans Chikwem and Thomas will
develop the conference structure including, but not limited to: (1) MSCHE
Monitoring Report Writing Team presentation, (2) new assessment software program
demonstration (Dr. Brevett), (3) presentation on Lincoln’s curriculum design,
and (4) a slide presentation by Dr. James DeBoy on “Assessment of Student Learning and Faculty Governance: Compatible or
Contentious?”
John
Miller Dickey Hall Renovation ($20 million). President Nelson announced the members of the building committee (Mr.
Steve Carol, Chair; Dr. Oswald Richards; Dr. Kevin Favor; Dr. Judith Thomas;
and Dr. Joanne DeBoy) for the renovation of John Miller Dickey Hall. The newly renovated building will house the
departments of Business, Education, Psychology, History/Political Science,
Sociology/Anthropology, and a separate addition for the University’s
Information Technology Center.
The
Library and Grim Hall is scheduled
for occupancy by mid-August. Grim Hall
will house Mass Communications, Philosophy/Religion, Languages/Labs and a large
lecture hall. President Nelson
encouraged members of Cabinet to visit the new “academic quad.”
2011-12
Operating Budget. Budget deliberations are ongoing with
significant progress.
Educational
Policy and Academic Affairs Committee (EPAAC). The Board of Trustees EPAAC
will meet via teleconference on Tuesday, July 26 at 8:00 a.m. The agenda will include (1) draft monitoring
report to MSCHE; (2) promotion and tenure; and (3) sabbatical
recommendations. Cabinet will meet Tuesday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m.
FISCAL AFFAIRS
Vice
President Merlin updated Cabinet members on HVAC issues in Lincoln Hall. Particulars regarding the proposed new
residence hall were discussed.
ACADEMIC DEANS
Several
announcements were made regarding the activities of our summer programs,
research and grants, and recent student and faculty development events. President Nelson asked Deans Chikwem and
Thomas to inform the Office of Communications of these accomplishments so that
they can be publicized.
