Minutes
Attendees: President Ivory V. Nelson, Vice President William
B. Bynum, Vice President Michael B. Hill, Vice President Grant D. Venerable
II, Vice President Howard E. Merlin, Dean John O. Chikwem and Ms. Diane M.
Brown.
Minutes
Draft Cabinet minutes of June 13, 2006 were approved.
Summer Programs
Vice President Venerable reported that summer school is in session, but that
it appears that enrollment is down from the previous year. The Cabinet
discussed briefly what might be done to increase enrollment in future summer
school sessions, and agreed that many of our students are unable to take
advantage of the summer session due to financial constraints.
Dean Chikwem indicated that 30 students had arrived on campus for the LEAPS
program. That number is expected to increase by 3-5 students.
Lincoln University/Barnes Foundation collaborative degree program
The Lindback Foundation has made a $200,000 grant, payable over four years,
to the Barnes Foundation in support of capital expenses related to the development
of the collaborative degree program between The Barnes Foundation and Lincoln
University.
Pandemic Flu
Lincoln University’s Pandemic Flu plan is on track to be finalized by the
first week of July. The University’s plan is in line with national
preparations.
Fiscal Affairs
Vice President Merlin reiterated that travel for recruitment was one of the
areas cut during the process to develop a balanced 2006-2007 budget.
Therefore, the cost of this must come from the budget of the area doing the
recruiting. President Nelson asked each vice president to identify
any other core functions cut during the budget process and the potential
cost to manage to meet the affected need.
The proposed 2006-2007 budget documents will be forwarded to the Business
Affairs committee of the Board of Trustees and then to the full Board for
consideration and adoption at its July 7, 2006 special meeting.
