President’s Cabinet Meeting

MINUTES
ATTENDEES: President Ivory V.
Nelson, Vice President Howard E. Merlin, Dr. Renford A.B. Brevett
for Executive Vice President Michael B. Hill, Dean Gladys J. Willis, Dean John
O. Chikwem, Dean Judith A.W. Thomas, and Ms. Diane M. Brown. Mr. John Thompson was in attendance for a
portion of the meeting.
MINUTES
Minutes of the June 7, 2011 Cabinet meeting were approved.
PHYSICAL PLANT UPDATE
· 2011-2012 Capital Budget is in the
development stage.
·
Ashmun Hall, Hansberry Hall, and McCauley Hall
are scheduled for renovation over the summer. Work includes new flooring,
ceiling tile and lighting in each dorm.
DGS Project Status:
·
Project 1101-28 Phase III & 1101-45 Phase
II (Emergency Generation):
Phase II contract to design and install the balance
of generation needs has been awarded. This will involve two more generators, a
new transformer and all associated gear.
·
Project 1101-32 (Vail Hall & Lincoln
Hall)
a)
Vail is complete except for work to be done over
the summer.
b)
Phase II Lincoln Hall - HVAC units are being
installed. Work is approximately 90%
complete.
·
Project 1101 – 38 Roof Project
Design is complete - waiting
for project to be released for bid.
·
Projects 1101-39 (Grim) 1101-43 (Wright) and
1101-44 (Library):
Grim Hall: 78% complete.
Wright Hall: 72% complete.
Library: 80% complete.
·
Project 1101-42 ICC
Update: Professional has been assigned to design the additional
parking lot study, a patio, and work along Baltimore Pike.
·
Projects 1101-45 (Landscape) and 1101-46
(Athletics)
a) The stadium building is underway: 13% complete
b) Landscaping: 16% complete
·
Project 1101-47 (Wellness Center):
The project is 51%
complete.
·
Project 1101-48 (John Miller Dickey Hall
Renovation):
Meetings with the University’s design team are
anticipated to begin in the near future.
·
New 600 Bed Dorm
Project is still under study.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
·
Assessment Activities – Cabinet discussed MSCHE
Draft Monitoring Reports submitted by members of the faculty writing team.
·
Summer
Bridge Program – Dean Thomas reported that 80 students have paid the requisite
deposit for enrollment into the program.
The Proposed Budget was discussed.
FISCAL AFFAIRS
Cabinet reviewed the draft 2011-12 Operating Budget presented by Vice
President Merlin.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, President Nelson adjourned the
meeting at 11:00 a.m.
