MINUTES
Cabinet minutes of June 3, 2008
were approved.
PHYSICAL PLANT BRIEFING
- Contractor is
currently working on the Vail Hall roofing project
- The Certificate of
Occupancy for the SUB has been issued. The
building is now under the control of the University
- Science Building construction – 30%
complete
- International Cultural Center
construction – 18% complete
- Library renovation
– 3 weeks ahead of schedule
- Wellness Center – sketch has been approved
- A problem has been
detected with the software for the air conditioning systems in Ware and
University Halls. It is affecting only
portions of the buildings.
- Residence Hall
work in progress: Rendell flooring; Hansberry & McCauley hot water
and heat
PRESIDENT
Preparing Lincoln
Students for the 21st Century
President Nelson asked Cabinet
members to review the “goals” for Lincoln University
for necessary
revisions/updates. The goals should be
qualitative and quantitative.
A draft “Plan for the Office of
Institutional Effectiveness, Research and Assessment” was discussed by
the
Cabinet.
Honda Campus All Star Challenge
Cabinet discussed ways to improve
the Honda Program on Lincoln’s
campus. President Nelson asked that a
package be put together for consideration.
Centers of Excellence
The President asked the Deans to
develop program descriptions for all of Lincoln’s
Centers of Excellence by the end of July.
The Sullivan Alliance
Dean John O. Chikwem will serve
as Lincoln University’s
liaison regarding the Alliance’s
strategies to “identify, recruit, educate, and graduate capable,
committed
health professionals and faculty for our nation’s health care needs.”
Research & Development Funds
Lincoln University
is ranked 22nd among colleges and universities in the
Greater
Philadelphia Region for 2006 research & development funds
($610,000).
ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
Cabinet discussed the possibility
of offering summer school classes out of 3020 Lincoln Plaza. President Nelson asked that a proposal be
developed so that a decision can be made during the fall semester.
FISCAL AFFAIRS
2008-2009 proposed capital and operating budgets
The FY09 operating budget was
discussed. All areas were asked to look
at expense line items to determine where adjustments can be made.
Fiscal Affairs was instructed to
prepare student billings using the figures currently projected on the
FY09
budget.
President Nelson approved the
reclassification and attached salary of two positions in the School of Humanities
from visiting instructor/lecturer to Asst. Professor.
Benefits Broker RFP
The Committee faculty, staff has
narrowed the field to five finalists.
Representatives of the clerical and faculty constituencies
served as
observers on the interview sessions.
STUDENT AFFAIRS AND ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT
Lincoln University Scholarship Guidelines
Vice President Bynum informed the
group of a proposed change to the guidelines for the awarding of
continuing
scholarships in the schools of Natural Science and Humanities. President Nelson asked that the matter be
researched in more depth before implementing and that a written
agreement be
developed for dean signature.
Athletic Director Search
The search team has completed
interviews of the candidates for the Athletic Director.
President Nelson commended the search
committee on the quality of the candidate pool.
The Committee consisted of persons from all constituencies
including
alumni.
Admissions Update
Vice President Bynum provided the
following information:
o
We are recruiting 550 students for
the entering
class, not 700 as last year.
o
The number of continuing students
who have paid
deposits and are housed is 1,200.
o
The number of continuing students on
the housing
waiting list is currently 167. The
academic standing of these students will be reviewed to see how many
can be
moved from the wait list and/or assigned housing.
Drive-in sessions for new
students have been scheduled for July 15, 16, 17, 22 & 23. During these sessions, students are permitted
to register for classes and take care of financial aid matters.
Admissions personnel are hosting
receptions for high achieving applicants in various cities. These students are also receiving letters
from the President, Vice President, Deans and Chairs in addition to
follow up
telephone calls.
