President’s Cabinet Meeting
May 31, 2005
Attendees: President Ivory V. Nelson, Vice President Michael
B. Hill, Vice President Grant D. Venerable, Vice President Howard E. Merlin,
Vice President William B. Bynum, and Ms. Diane M. Brown. Attending
for portion of meeting: Ms. Thelma Ross
Cabinet approved minutes of May 24, 2005 meeting.
2004-2005 Operating Budget Preparations
President Nelson asked the vice presidents to make additional reductions
in expenses, including the deletion of one vacant position from each division,
in order to attain a balanced operating budget for 2005-2006. In addition,
President Nelson identified several other line items for reduction.
Student Housing Inventory
An inventory of all student housing facilities was recently conducted by
Physical Plant and Residence Life to assess the condition of doors, locks,
lights, windows, screens, shades/blinds, electric outlets, closets, mirrors,
towel bars, floor tiles, ceiling tiles and furniture in every room in the
residence halls. The process, which was completed over a three-week
period, identified items requiring repair, and will enable the Physical plant
to determine where best to concentrate resources and efforts to address areas
of greatest need and impact.
Human Resources
The revised draft “Employee Grievance Procedure” for non-bargaining Union
employees, submitted by Human Resources, was approved.
Space Planning
Vice President Bynum presented an updated plan for building/space use, which
included proposed moves to be complete by Fall 2005. Cabinet approved
the space plan submitted by the Space Planning Committee.
