President William B. Bynum, Jr., Dean John O. Chikwem for Vice President
Grant D. Venerable, II, Vice President Michael B. Hill, Vice President Howard
E. Merlin, and Ms. Jody C. Brunner for Ms. Diane M. Brown.
PRESIDENT
Draft Cabinet Meeting Minutes of May 16, 2006 were approved as presented.
2006-07 Operating Budget was discussed in detail. President
Nelson requested a balanced budget by 5:00 p.m. June 5, 2006.
“Errors of Admission?” Inside Higher Education, May 18, 2006.
The topic addressed admitting students despite documented history of violence.
Vice President Bynum indicated that most universities admit students if they
meet admission standards but universities can deny student privileges based
on past history.
Pandemic Bird Flu Preparedness. Members of Cabinet felt that
Lincoln University was well ahead of most colleges and universities in addressing
the issue. Dean Chikwem expressed the importance of including university
legal counsel as part of the coordinating committee.
Westport Country Playhouse. The President will respond to Westport’s
request to display a photograph of Vail Hall in their upcoming production
of Thurgood, a one-man show about the life of Thurgood Marshall.
DEVELOPMENT AND EXTERNAL RELATIONS
Vice President Hill announced that a camera crew would be on campus Wednesday,
May 31 to shoot a promotional video, Lou Gossett, Jr., narrator. The
video will include the President, two students and two members of the faculty.
There being no further business, President Nelson adjourned the meeting at
12:20 p.m.
