President's Cabinet Meeting

Attendees: President Ivory V. Nelson, Vice President Richard C. Winchester, Vice President Edward L. McCusker, Vice President Anthony R. Fairbanks, Ms. Veronica Cohen, Mr. John Willis, Mr. Kevin Draper, Mr. Colin McGowan, Mr. Nicholas Chaban, Ms. Diane M. Brown

Physical Plant - Mr. John Willis distributed to the Cabinet, copies of schedules for the tasks to be undertaken by the Physical Plant during the summer months. President Nelson requested that the Physical Plant also prepare a schedule for the pick-up of trash from buildings over the summer. Mr. Kevin Draper distributed copies of work order sheets, which will be implemented to evaluate and track the work performed by personnel in the Physical Plant. Mr. Draper was scheduled to meet with personnel in these areas, later that morning, to review and discuss the implementation of this new procedure. Mr. Colin McGowan reported that it would be necessary to take Lucy Laney off-line for the entire Fall Semester for renovations. This will result in a decrease in available dorm space for students. It was decided that the Living-Learning Center Guestrooms will be used to house students for the Fall Semester, if necessary. Some thought is to be given to housing honor students in this facility. Ms. Veronica Cohen will develop a form for use in processing (non-university staff). Mr. McGowan will be working on forms to be used for "processing of requests."

Faculty Academy in Information Technology - Penn State will hold the first Faculty Academy in Information Technology August 2 and 3 at its University Park Campus. Vice President Winchester indicated that he would see that the L.U. faculty was made aware of this.

International Cultural Center - Vice President Fairbanks reported that the following commitments have been made to contributors: Named Art Gallery, 4 Conference Rooms, 750+ Named Chairs in the Auditorium. This information will be communicated to the State architect so they can move forward with the design of the ICC. L.U.

2000-2001 Operating Budget - Mr. Nick Chaban distributed copies of two versions of the operating budget. The Vice Presidents were asked to revise their budget narratives as necessary, based on the most recent versions of the budget. The proposed budgets will be sent to the Board of Trustees for review and approval.

L.U. 2000-2001 Capital Budget - President Nelson shared with the Cabinet, a copy of a letter which Sen. Robert Thompson had sent to Secretary Bittenbender, requesting that serious consideration be given to releasing funds approved by the legislature in the 1997 and 1999 Capital Budgets, for specific projects at Lincoln. Vice President McCusker was asked to prepare a capital budget showing the big item requests from the State.
