ATTENDEES: President Ivory V. Nelson, Senior Vice President
Grant D. Venerable, Executive Vice President Michael B. Hill, Vice President
Howard E. Merlin, Dr. Jacqueline Gibson for Interim Vice President Jerryl
Briggs, Dean Judith A.W. Thomas and Ms. Diane M. Brown. Mr. John Thompson,
Director of Physical Plant was in attendance for a portion of the meeting.
MINUTES
Minutes of the April 20, 2010 Cabinet meeting were approved.
PHYSICAL PLANT BRIEFING
Summer Projects List – With the assistance of Student Life personnel,
Physical Plant has established a summer capital projects list of priority
items. Priority has been given to items that impact student comfort and safety.
The cost of the projects has been estimated at $905,000.
Commonwealth-funded projects – Late June has been established as the
probable kickoff date for the HVAC, Grimm, Wright, and Library renovations,
Wellness Center construction and landscape and athletics projects.
Rendall Hall – A new electrical transformer has been received and
will be installed shortly following Commencement.
LLC – Due to the breakdown of a 4160 volt transformer, a temporary
skid generator will be connected to temporarily service the south wing of
the LLC.
Science Building – DGS is working to repair a heating line in the
building that has failed. The failure appears to be the result of a
faulty design issue.
A request has been received for the installation of separation
walls in the three large suites to separate the working spaces of the Chairs
from that of the secretaries, thereby providing privacy for the Chairs.
Commencement – Plans are in place and set-ups for the various Founder’s
Day and Commencement events are well underway.
DISCUSSION TOPICS
Title IX - The “Dear Colleague Letter – Intercollegiate Athletics
Policy Clarification: The Three-Part Test – Part Three” correspondence received
from the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights was discussed.
The documents have been sent to the Athletics Director for review and necessary
action/follow up.
Water & Sanitary Connection – Hasanna AUMP Church – The Cabinet
authorized Mr. John Thompson to move forward on behalf of the University
according to the plans for installation of a waterline and sanitary line
to Hosanna AUMP Church and use of the proposed expanded Alumni House parking
lot outlined in the April 21, 2010 letter from Melton Architects.
Advancing to the Top – Cabinet adjourned at 10:00 a.m. to convene
a meeting to focus discussion on the Advancing to the Top initiatives.
