MINUTES
Cabinet meeting minutes of April 5, 2011 were accepted.
PHYSICAL PLANT BRIEFING
Mr.
Thompson provided the following update:
·
Grimm
and the Library are on schedule.
·
Back
up light towers are on site.
·
Project
1101-28 (Emergency Generation):
Phase III of this project is in design. We are waiting for Regional approval.
·
Project
1101-32 (Vail Hall):
a) Phase II Lincoln Hall is
underway. HVAC units are being installed.
b) The Lincoln Hall project is 68% complete.
·
Projects
1101-39 (Grimm) 1101-43 (Wright) and 1101-44 (Library):
Grimm
Hall: The project is 44% complete.
Wright
Hall: The project is about 68%
complete.
Library:
The project is 70% complete.

Projects
1101-45 (Landscape) and 1101-46 (Athletics): The stadium building is underway and the STP
parking lot (sewage treatment parking) is scheduled to be complete by the
end
of March. The road crossing on Baltimore Pike is slated to begin next
week. The project is reported to be at 9% for 1101- 45 & 9% for 1101- 46.

Project
1101-47 (Wellness Center):
The project is 40% complete.
·
Project
1101-48 (John Miller Dickey Hall Renovation): The Professional has signed the contract
agreement.
Mr. Thompson reported that he has
met with residence life staff regarding the list of proposed capital projects
for fiscal year 2011-12, as well as repairs needed in the residence halls. They are now working on a preferred list of
projects to address over the summer months.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
·
Assessment Activities – The plan of action for
the period April 26-29 was discussed.
This item will be included on the agenda for the April 26, 2011 Faculty
meeting. Department monitoring reports
will be developed during this period with a goal of have the reports completed
by May 6. The Deans were asked to
provide names of in-house writers and reviewers of the reports. The Assessment Director is also to be
involved during this period.
The Writing
Proficiency Program has been added to the list of programs for which an
assessment plan must be developed. The
number of programs now totals 38.

Required
Reading Texts – Cabinet discussed the list of 40 required reading texts that
has been assembled by the faculty. Dean
Willis stressed that prior to the finalization of the list, discussions need to
take place to ascertain the purpose of the list. The list should be re-evaluated based on the
outcome of the discussion. The matter
will be taken up by the Deans.
FISCAL AFFAIRS
- Variance Analysis - Vice
President Merlin and Cabinet members discussed the 03.31.11 Actual v. 03.31.11
Budget variance analysis.
- Health Care – Vice President Merlin
informed the Cabinet members of various factors impacting the University’s
health care plan. These items were
discussed by those present.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, President Nelson adjourned the
meeting at 11:30 a.m.
