President’s Cabinet Meeting
April 5, 2005
Attendees: President Ivory V. Nelson, Vice President Michael
B. Hill, Vice President Grant D. Venerable, Vice President Howard E. Merlin,
Dean Jerryl Briggs and Ms. Diane M. Brown. Attending for portion of
meeting: George Buchanan, Esq., University Counsel.
Cabinet meeting minutes of March 28, 2005 were approved.
Reduction in the Number of Majors and Minors
The proposal submitted by the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
was referred back to the faculty for further review, as it did not meet the
goal of decreasing the number of majors.
The proposal submitted by the faculty of the Humanities recommending the
discontinuance, with no new admission in 2005-2006 for German, Russian and
Chinese was accepted.
Physical Plant
The cost to repair/replace roofs under the Department of General Services
Project No.1101-38 has been estimated between $594,411 and $1,300,200.
Buildings included in the project are Grim, Wright, Vail, Lincoln, Azikiwe-Nkrumah,
and Dickey Halls, LLC, Chapel, Maintenance Facility, Guest House and Lincoln
House. Also included in the estimate is DGS Project 1101-27, University
Hall Roof.

It was noted that the in-state/out-of-state ratio for admitted students has
gone from 3-to-1 in 2004 to 2-to-1 for Fall 2005.
There being no further business, President Nelson adjourned the meeting at
12:45 p.m.
