President's Cabinet Meeting

Minutes of the March 10, 2003 Cabinet Meeting were approved.

Department of Education Policy Change A new policy implemented by the Department of Education redefines the period in which Universities must spend funds remaining from Title III grants for the period FY 1997 through FY 2002. Should the new position stand, it appears that HBCU grantees will have only until September 30, 2003 to spend the funds unless an extension of up to one year is granted. HBCUs previously were given consent to carryover funds for up to five years.

New Dormitory Schematic Design The current proposal from the architect for the new student dormitory includes the following: apartments for 5 people; 100% single bedrooms; full baths; kitchenette w/ single bowl sink, microwave, one food storage cabinet per student; small seating area in kitchenette; bedrooms to accommodate loft style bed, desk, small refrigerator (to be provided by student), closet and dresser; entry from the interior and exterior of the building to Resident Coordinators apartments. The proposed building type is: two "L" shaped 4-story buildings with 1-story lobby connecting the buildings; partial, shared basement; one elevator per building.

Damage to Gym Floor Covering Damage occurring to the Gym floor covering this past weekend will cost approximately $9,500 to repair. An investigation will be conducted to try to identify the person(s) responsible for the damage.
