PRESIDENT
President’s Academic Scholarship Recruitment Program
proposal –
President Nelson presented his proposal for an academic scholarship
recruitment
program for entering freshman non-international students.
The goal of the program is to recruit top
students for the Centers of Excellence Programs. President
Nelson plans to meet with the academic
deans and department faculty to ensure their involvement in recruiting
and
retaining these top students.
Budgetary issues – The vice presidents were asked to
conduct a
personnel cost audit of their areas to identify all personnel costs for
each
defined department at the institution. President
Nelson asked that major reports and some depart chairs be involved in
the
exercise so as to gain full benefit of the audit exercise.
ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
Cabinet discussed the desire
expressed by faculty to permit students with “Holds” to register during
open
registration. Vice President Bynum was
asked to look at implications of such a change and come back with a
proposal.
FISCAL AFFAIRS
Vice President Merlin distributed
information on the status of the health care fringe benefit for
information and
discussion.
DEVELOPMENT & EXTERNAL RELATIONS
Vice President Hill provided an
update on meetings with Cheyney
University
regarding the
Lincoln/Cheyney Football Classic.
Mr. Hill was asked to look into
whether Lincoln
University might
be able to participate
in the $15 million provided in the stimulus package for historic
preservation
at HBCUs.
STUDENT AFFAIRS AND ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT
Vice President Bynum reported
that the number of students who may have to be administratively
withdrawn
because they are carrying balances over the limit has been reduced down
to 64
from 107.
Admission applications are up
over 1,000 compared to this same time last year. Vice
President Bynum believes the increase in
interest is due to the spread by word of mouth by current students,
faculty,
staff and alumni about our student enhancement programs and building
projects. He anticipates being able to
close admissions
early again this year.
