Vice President Grant D. Venerable II, Dean John O. Chikwem, Dean Judith A.W.
Thomas, Dean Gladys J. Willis, and Ms. Diane M. Brown.
Draft Cabinet minutes of February 14, 2006 were approved.
Academic Affairs Briefing
Dean Willis informed Cabinet that a March 16, 2006 luncheon and program focusing
on the Humanities Center of Excellence has been planned.
Review of the 2006-2007 budget has begun. President Nelson stressed
the need to prepare in advance so that paperwork for personnel is properly
processed before bringing new hires on board. Vice Presidents Merlin
and Venerable have been assigned the task of devising a method to remedy
the issue as it relates to MHS adjuncts.
The Self-Study Committee has been meeting in preparation for the MSA liaison
visit in April. Vice President Venerable shared with the Cabinet, specific
charges to be addressed by each of the Self-study Task Forces.
An omission was made in the “Use of Portable Computers” policy distributed
to the campus by the Human Resources Office. The Policy is to be revised
and redistributed to the campus.
Development and External Relations
Vice President Hill reminded the Cabinet of the Black History Month Program
in recognition of Dr. Peter Otunuya Chinwe Odili, Governor of River States,
Nigeria, on Wednesday, February 22, 2006.
Vice President Merlin presented draft policies concerning “grant proposals”
and “grant awards” for review by the vice presidents. The Cabinet will
consider the policies once input from faculty is received.
The impact of payroll deadlines on new hires was discussed. It is important
that all new hires be advised accurately regarding their expectations of
receipt of their initial payroll disbursement.
President Nelson commended Vice President Bynum on the outstanding presentation
on the proposed “Student Life Enhancement (Athletics Upgrade) made to the
Board of Trustees before its meeting on Saturday, February 18th. Board
members will be encouraged to contact President Nelson with any questions
they may still have about the proposal.
There being no further business, President Nelson adjourned the meeting at
