President's Cabinet Meeting

Middle States Commission on Higher Education - The Commission on Higher Education will hold spring dialogues to discuss proposed revisions to Characteristics of Excellence in Higher Education, their basic standards for accreditation. Vice President will make certain that Lincoln is represented at these discussions of how the new standards can be implemented in the coming years. Lincoln University's Periodic Review Report (PRR) is due June 1, 2003. The Commission is sponsoring preparation workshops for institutions scheduled for review. Vice President SubbaRao will ascertain whether participation will be beneficial to the University.
University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate Scholl of Business Presidential Fellowship Program - The University has been informed of this Fellowship designed to help alumni of HBCUs earn their MBAs. Participants must be nominated by the President of the HBCU and accepted into the 11-month program. Vice President SubbaRao will ask the Deans to send the name of a candidate to President Nelson to be submitted to the admissions office for consideration.
The Lincoln Lion - The following is the proposed publication schedule for the Lincoln Lion: Circulation Deadline for Date Content Contributions Winter Feb. 2 Jan. 12 Spring April 2 Mar. 1 Summer July 2 June 1 Autumn Oct. 1 Sept. 3
College and University Security Information Act - These regulations require each institution of higher education to file annually, an assurance statement attesting to the institution's compliance with the act and regulations. Vice President Bynum was asked to review Lincoln's compliance with this act and regulations and file the required assurance form with the Department of Education by the March 1, 2001 deadline.
VICE PRESIDENTS' REPORTS/ACTION
Student Affairs & Enrollment Management - Vice President Bynum reported
that as of January 16, 2001, a total of 738 undergraduate students had been
cleared and registered for the spring 2001 semester. A "Pre-Bid" meeting on
the privatized housing RFP will be held on Friday, January 19, 2001, on the
campus. Interested parties have been invited to ask any questions they may have
concerning the RFP.
MISCELLANEOUS
Act 136 Proposed Regulations - The LU Graduate Alumni Chapter has mobilized
to have the Act 136 Proposed Regulations be inclusive of the MHS degree. The
Graduate Alumni Chapter's "Position Paper" states that "Effective January 2001,
the Pennsylvania's Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional
Counselors ~ Act 136 Proposed Regulations omit the Lincoln University Masters
of Human Services (MHS) Degree as a field or discipline to qualify for licensure."
The Position Paper also states that "The Licensure Board's Proposed Regulations
have created a system of accreditation requirements that potentially disqualifies
MHS professional experiences and credentials for national examinations and Grandfathering
under Act 136." Vice President SubbaRao will meet with Dr. Ishtai Zee to ascertain
the particulars of the Act, and President Nelson will meet with the officers
of the Graduate Chapter to discuss this matter.
Historically Black Colleges & Universities/Minority Institutions Consortium for National & International Programs - There is a $5,000 membership fee to join this consortium. Lincoln University will not be able to accept the Consortium's invitation to join at this time.
