UPDATES FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 18, 2003

Unfortunately we have had a few water problems due to digging on campus. Vail, Lincoln, and Wright Halls, the Langston Hughes Library and the Physical Plant itself were all affected by water problems. We also had a few fiberoptic cable problems. Luckily they were found and fixed in a very short time with little inconvenience.

ROAD/PARKING CLOSURES - the following roads will be closed during the coming week:

  • Maple Drive - closed in the vicinity of Chapel parking lot Wednesday and Thursday, August 20 - 21.
  • University Hall & Life Science Road - closed Thursday, August 20.
  • Old Grimm Gym parking area - closed August 20 - 23.

The work has been moving along at a steady pace and hopefully you have noticed the new lights all over campus. Look for the lights to be lit in the gym parking lot and along the road towards the SUB, the Security, Dickey and Chapel parking lots, and alternately down Maple Drive!

Look for the new safety signs all around campus. These have been installed for your safety so please take the time to read and follow them.

HIGHLIGHTS:

348 new site lights with 34,990 ft. of conduit (that's 6.7 miles of trenching)!

Each electrical manhole weighs approcimately 8,800 lbs!

Walt Konopka, Heery International is the Construction Manager for these projects and Gerry Davis is the Project Administrator for Lincoln University. All questions, problems etc. will be addressed through them to the appropriate contractor. You may contact them through the Office of the Physical Plant at extension 3111. Your cooperation and understanding are appreciated! Remember - these are your tax dollars at work.
