CAREER CHOICE COMMENTS
Gaining a career in Philosophy usually requires obtaining a Ph.D. in philosophy to qualify for teaching and/or research positions in higher education institutions. There are very few opportunities for "doing philosophy' as a career outside higher education. Nevertheless, philosophy prepares students with logic, communication, problem-solving, writing, and analytical skills. These skills are valuable in many non-philosophical career
contexts, and are particularly valuable for students combining a major in philosophy with a major or minor in a more -specific area. Gaining such stalls can give a student a competitive edge is the world of work. Finally, philosophy is excellent preparation for pre-law students and students intending to enter graduate or professional programs in other areas. Lincoln students who have majored in philosophy have gone au to run their own
businesses, such as production companies and transportation companies. They have attended top law schools, and interdisciplinary programs. such as African Studies.
