Math & CSC Department News/ Announcements

  • In Spring 2010, Lincoln University Faculty approved a proposal by the Math/ Computer Science Department for a new course: CSC-152 Introduction to Programming [See Faculty Meeting Minutes]. The department plans to offer the course in Spring 2011.
  • Mathematics and Computer Science Department along with Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Departments moved to the new state-of-the-art Science and Technology Building in Fall 2009.
  • MAT-103 (Algebra I) and MAT-104 (Algebra & Applications) have been renumbered as MAT-098 and MAT-099 to be in-line with renumbering of all the developmental courses.
  • In Spring 2009, Mr. Greg Malize has been named as the Math Department's Computer Science Achievement award recipient.

  • The Mathematics department has incorporated ALEKS system in MAT-103 & MAT-104 courses starting Fall 2008. Students are REQUIRED to attend 2 weekly hourly labs in the Learning Resource Center to use ALEKS and one additional hour on their own. Students in general are strongly encouraged to regularly use ALEKS outside of the classroom at every available opportunity.

  • Dr. Goro Nagase establishes Endowment Fund.
  • Math & CSC department plans to place the standard versions of their course syllabi on-line during Summer 2007.
  • Dr. Goro Nagase received the 2007 Board of Trustees Henry Cornwell Distinguished Teaching award during the May 2007 commencement ceremony.
  • Dr. J. Pathak and Ms. P Pathak began hosting a series of pedagogy workshops for members of the MSPGP community, which included faculty from partner colleges and school districts.
  • Three students took part this year in the first offerings of our departmental capstone course MAT 475 Research Seminar, under the direction of Dr. J. Pathak and Dr. Niiler. All three students submitted and were accepted to present their work at the EPADEL chapter of the MAA meetings, one in Fall 2006 and two in Spring 2007.
  • Mr. Davis has been named as the Math Department's 2007 Computer Science award recipient.
  • Mr. Ayoola has been named as the Math Department's 2007 Computer Science Achievement award recipient.
  • Mathematics Department has updated their minor programs this year, both in Computer Science and Mathematics. The Math and Computer Science minors were revised to allow more flexibility and several choices of concentrations. Development of an Applied Math major concentration was begun including beginning revisions to applied math courses.
