Jamila Cupid
Dr. Jamila “Jai” Cupid has served as a public relations and digital media professional in New York City and Washington, DC for several years. She has held positions at various agencies, including Fleishman-Hillard, MWW Group, MediaCom and more. She recently served as an adjunct professor at The College of New Rochelle. Cupid also dedicates her time to mentoring students aspiring to enter the communications industry and conducting business etiquette training.
Her research is focused on international and intercultural public relations and communication, which is reflected in her jointly published work on multicultural news consumption and community participation, as well as her dissertation on Afro-Brazilian public relations practitioners in the agency setting. Her research interests extend to the areas of digital and convergent media. Her professional affiliations include the Public Relations Society of America, National Communication Association and International Communication Association.
Cupid earned a B.A. in English from Boston University, then M.A. in Human Communication and Ph.D. in Mass Communication and Media Studies from Howard University. She has studied at the University of São Paulo in Brazil and University of Havana in Cuba. Additionally, she holds a Certificate in International Studies and is a proud member of the Edward A. Bouchet Graduate Honor Society founded by Yale and Howard universities.
