Lincoln University presented its 145th commencement on Sunday, May 2, 2004on the infield of the University’s track and field complex in southern Chester County, Pennsylvania. One hundred and sixty-five seniors received baccalaureate degrees and 157 students were awarded their master's degrees. Lincoln’s commencement was highlighted by a keynote address delivered by the Honorable Dr. Rod Paige, U.S. Secretary of Education. Dr. Paige urged the new Lincoln graduates to “seize the moment to make this world a better place.”

The University also presented honorary degrees to the following three distinguished awardees: Adrienne G. Rhone, a 1976 cum laude Lincoln graduate, and chair of the Lincoln Board of Trustees from 1999-2003; the Honorable Paul Boateng, Chief Secretary to the Treasury of Britain; and pioneer veterinarian Dr. William Henry Waddell, a 1931 Lincoln graduate, and member of the U.S. Army’s elite, all-Black Cavalry unit, the “Buffalo Soldiers.”

While there was rain in the forecast, Commencement turned into a sun-soaked day full of smiles and optimism about the future. The following are scenes from a beautiful afternoon for Lincoln graduates, faculty, proud parents and the administration.
