Universitys 145th Commencement

Lincoln University presented its 145th commencement on Sunday,
May 2, 2004on the infield of the Universitys track and field
complex in southern Chester County, Pennsylvania. One hundred
and sixty-five seniors received baccalaureate degrees and 157
students were awarded their master's degrees. Lincolns commencement
was highlighted by a keynote address delivered by the Honorable
Dr. Rod Paige, U.S. Secretary of Education. Dr. Paige urged
the new Lincoln graduates to seize the moment to make this
world a better place.
The University
also presented honorary degrees to the following three distinguished
awardees: Adrienne G. Rhone, a 1976 cum laude Lincoln graduate,
and chair of the Lincoln Board of Trustees from 1999-2003;
the Honorable Paul Boateng, Chief Secretary to the Treasury
of Britain; and pioneer veterinarian Dr. William Henry Waddell,
a 1931 Lincoln graduate, and member of the U.S. Armys elite,
all-Black Cavalry unit, the Buffalo Soldiers.
While there was rain in the forecast, Commencement turned into
a sun-soaked day full of smiles and optimism about the future.
